Hiking - Raft Mountain Day Hike

CLEARWATER, BRITISH COLUMBIA

SUMMARY

A day-long adventure into the fabulous but accessible Cariboo Mountains close to Clearwater. This tour is a great way to experience the mountain environment without a big time commitment.

DESCRIPTION

Raft Peak is the primary focus of the skyline of Clearwater, BC. Its summit is attainable from the south by peak bagging hikers. As soon as the snow leaves the upper mountain, glacier lilies, spring beauties, and western anemones blanket the walk to the summit ridgeline. The hike to the top can be done in a couple of hours from the end of a forestry road, and is suited to any able bodied person. The summit gives us a sweeping panorama of the peaks and slopes of the Monashee and Cariboo Ranges. Alternate Hikes are possible on Raft Mountain for those who want to experience the mountains, but are not interested in going to the summit. Opportunities abound for exploring and rambling in the alpine environment in high meadows, or beautiful Willis Lake in the sub alpine.

INTINERARY

Meet at the Flower Meadow Bakery at 8 am. Car pool or use our 4WD vehicle to get to the trailhead (about
45 minutes). Hike to the Summit of Raft Mountain (about 2 hours), or to Willis Lake and the meadows beyond. Opportunities exist for flower photos, bird watching, and sessions on ecology. Lunch on the mountain. Return to Clearwater.

An alternative trip is to hike into the alpine bowls of the backside of Raft Peak or to access Baldy Mountain

EXPERIENCE LEVEL

Novice to Advanced. We will tailor the tour to the groups interests. There are easy walking options with numerous flower and wildlife viewing opportunities, and the possibility exists for advanced hikers to ascend and traverse an alpine ridge over the summit of Raft Mountain.
